Get to know the firm

Our Story

Since its founding in 2010, the firm has focused on traditional architecture and the creating of new homes, additions, and remodels.  JH Designs has established a design approach that is characterized by its attention to detail, its creativeness in the design process, and commitment to providing excellent service.

“Design matters because we do not live in caves anymore”

Our Vision

A believer in the practice of “seamless” design, we strive to create an indistinguishable seam where new meets old.  Whether working in new construction or creating an addition to an existing home; style, proportions, and appropriate materials are key to achieving a seamless design.  When a project is complete, the new addition or the remodeled section of a home should feel as though it was always there.  A new home should not only fit the needs of the client, but also fit the location and environment in which it is constructed.

Jason Hoppe

After earning a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Jason began his career working with a design/build architecture firm in Milwaukee.  There he learned first-hand about construction while working in the field.  When not in the field, Jason was designing, securing new leads, and taking projects from concept through to the last coat of paint.  In Chicago, he had the opportunity to design custom homes in the north shore area at a small residential firm.  There he worked with clients designing new custom homes, historic home remodels, and additions.  In 2010, Jason and his wife relocated to Louisville, and saw the opportunity to start his own firm.  With over 16 years of experience at both large and boutique firms, Jason brings an unmatched level of skill to the creation of custom design and a deep understanding of residential architecture.

“…I’ve reviewed a lot of architects work over the past twenty years and few sets of CD’s are as handsome as these. Perhaps it shouldn’t go without saying, either, that the designs are quite nice, too. Not all architects and designers receive my well-intentioned two cents in the spirit in which they are intended, but Jason seems to manage to rework things in a way that produces excellent results…”

– Mike Watkins, Town Architect for Norton Commons- Louisville, KY

“…Working with Jason has been a joy. He was as excited about our project as we were. Taking nebulous ideas and turning them into reality is magic. Jason seemed to intuitively understand what we were aiming for and brought design features forward that, when seen on paper were – eureka – exactly as wished for. Additionally, he put us in touch with a stellar contractor so that the whole experience was collaborative and rewarding. We look forward to our next projects…

– M. Thomas, Client ~ St. Matthews, KY

“…We contracted with JH Design to do plans for a remodel of our kitchen/dining room. This was the first major renovation my wife and I had taken on and Jason was great at helping us lay out the vision. The level of detail that the plans provided helped us with kitchen cabinet options, the detailed lighting and overall flow of the room. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking at a major remodel/build…”

– C. Greco, Client ~ St. Matthews, KY

“…In the realm of architectural design, I believe raw intuition and understanding of form, space, order, proportion, sequence and rhythm have the ability to blossom only under a certain fervor. Jason exhibits this fervor and embraces every aspect of what is required of an excellent architect.  The execution of his work is always fervent and professional…”
